I was recently involved on handling some of the technical/administrative issues for a candidate's website in Canada's recent federal election. To be honest, the whole process was a hassle, as a member of the campaign team had already signed up for hosting on a poor provider with limited options, and I ended up using Wordpress to host a bare-bones campaign site.

This is something I've been thinking about a lot lately. Like the author, the shell-based structure and lack of ASP.net facilities is a key impediment to some new users to using a Linux host. But ultimately I think that the advantages to Linux outweight the drawbacks.
